Albany, NY— In 2008, The Sage Colleges decided to broaden their athletic program by introducing male sports. One of the newest additions to the program is men’s soccer. In August 2009, Kyle Clancy, former assistant men’s soccer coach at SUNY New Paltz, was named head coach for the Gators. This past summer, Chris Miller (Guilderland Center, NY) was named assistant coach for the 2010 team.
Clancy recruited 26 young men to try out for the first varsity men’s team roster. The 2010 Sage Gators were voted to finish eighth, out of eleven teams, in the Skyline Conference (a NCAA Division III level of competition) Championship race to victory.
The Sage Gators men’s soccer team is made up of the 26 men from all over the east coast including New York, Connecticut, Maine and Vermont. Four goal keepers, twelve defensemen, eight mid-fielders and two forwards will work together during the 2010 fall season to achieve victory.
The Gators kicked off their season on September 3rd and 4th at the Oswego State College Classic. The gators were defeated by Oswego State and Grove City by two close scores of 1-0. The first home game is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14th at 4:30 p.m. against the Colonels of Curry College. Home games for the 2010 season are scheduled to take place on the Albany Academy for Boys campus in Albany, NY.
