New Home at Sage for the Underground Railroad History Project

A well-attended reception in honor of the URHPCR office and the new Scholars-in-Residence was held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Buchman Pavilion on the Troy campus. The reception included a brief program featuring greetings from President Susan Scrimshaw, Dean Robinson, and Professor Andor Skotnes, as well as remarks by URHPCR project founders Paul Stewart and Mary Liz Stewart.
Additionally, the Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region will hold its ninth annual conference at Russell Sage College on February 26-28, 2010. The conference is entitled Gender, Class, Race, and Ethnicity in Abolutionism on the Underground Railroad and in the Struggle Since.
Organized by the URHPCP in collaboration with the Rensselaer County Historical Society, the conference brings together a wide spectrum of scholars, authors, and members of the community. This year’s keynote speaker will be Rhonda Y. Williams, Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University and a History News Network “Top Young Historian.”
