Troy, NY- Russell Sage has welcomed this year’s freshman class. The class of 2014 already made a great impression at Russell Sage College traditional Banner Night.
It was, “One of the biggest turnouts banner night has seen,” said one upper classman, Ashley Menge. “All of the freshman knew their songs and [were] very energetic jumping right into our traditions.”
Others that have met the freshman through Sage’s activities have enjoyed their company and welcome their fellow sisters like true family.
These students are not only from New York, but come from as far as Washington State. This freshman class enrollment is 124 students, one of the largest classes Russell Sage has seen in a few years, showing how RSC continues to expand.
I had the chance to interview a few of the freshman and ask about their thoughts on RSC. However, they wished to remain anonymous for this article, so they are referred to by their majors.
Nichole: “So welcome to Russell Sage! How do feel after completing your first week of college?”
Forensics’ Major: “I truly like the campus and the social interactions in the classroom. I just feel comfortable, but I hate the weather. It has been way too hot the past week, especially in the dorms.”
Physical Therapy Major: “I feel really comfortable and happy to be here. I really enjoy all the activities that continue through the year, not just at orientation.”
Nichole: “That’s great. Sage is really good about having activities and trying new ideas you may have. My favorite is the movie nights that play in Bush.”
Physical Therapy Major: “Yea, I actually went to that on Friday night.”
Nichole: “Do you have any expectations or goals you want to accomplish this year?”
Physical Therapy Major: “I really want to meet new friends and (chuckles) write essays that don’t suck.”
Nutrition Major: “I honestly just want to be able to keep up with my homework, but still have time to spend with friends.”
Nichole: “I know being a freshman you have many concerns at first. What is one of your main concerns or questions?”
Nutrition Major: “Right now my biggest concern is boredom (laughs), but probably what I am most concerned about is how the teachers present the material, such as tests and each teachers variations in grading procedures.”
Nichole: “It’s not bad. After your first quiz or test you should have a pretty clear idea or even after some of the homework. Plus, the teachers are pretty good about explaining their grading and what they are looking for in your work.”
As you can see, the freshman class is adjusting well, but don’t be afraid to go up and introduce yourself to a freshman. We all remember how nervous we were as freshmen meeting people and getting a hold of the college atmosphere. Help our 2014-freshman class become part of Russell Sage’s sisterhood and community.
