Sage falls in ECAC Upstate Tournament, 2-0

Brockport, NY—

The Sage Colleges women’s soccer team traveled to Brockport State College for the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference Upstate Tournament. Seeded third, Sage dropped a 2-0 decision on Saturday to Medialle College in the semifinals of the tournament. Medialle advances to the championship game where they will take on top seeded Brockport State College on Sunday at noon. Brockport was a 6-0 winner over SUNY-IT in the other semifinal contest on Saturday. Sage wraps the 2009 season with a 9-9-1 record, while Medialle improves to 10-8-2.

Medialle would take a 1-0 lead at the half as Mary Smialek connected for a penalty kick score at 32:11. Medialle would connect for their second goal of the match at 48:37 as Laura Freeman found the net for her 18^th goal of the year.

In goal for the Gators, was Sage’s junior goalie Brittany McDonald (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) as she made five saves on the afternoon, while Medialle’s Alexa Wisel added a pair of saves in collecting the shutout win.
