Don’t Blink: Blink-182 Cancels

Written by Brittany Stark

Blink-182 proved to be a no-show at their own concert, presented by Live Nation at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center on August 31, disappointing many local fans.

Ticketholders were given the option of still attending the show sans Blink-182 or getting a full refund. SPAC workers gave out instructions on how to receive a refund from Live Nation.

Because the band cancelled on such late notice, many fans didn’t find out until they were already on their way to the concert, or already there. Traffic was backed up on the highway and some fans even found out while sitting in traffic because other vehicles had signs hanging out of the window, saying that Blink-182 cancelled.

“I wasn’t even sad, just really mad,” Said Elizabeth Sawyer, a communication major at Russell Sage College. “I’ve wanted to see them since they came here for Big Day Out but I was too young,” She said, referring to a festival Blink-182 played years ago, when Sawyer was 11 years old.

Blink-182 cancelled, according to both the band’s website and Live Nation’s, because of the death of DJ AM, who died of drug overdose. . Last year the drummer of Blink-182, Travis Barker, and DJ AM were the only survivors of a plane crash.

Although DJ AM died on August 28 and Blink-182 played their show on August 30, the band decided to cancel their August 31 performance and reschedule their next two shows.  The SPAC show continued without its headlining band, with Weezer playing a longer set list. The other two acts were Chester French and Taking Back Sunday.
