SPORTS: Falling Back into the Gator Routine

To the fall athletes here at The Sage Colleges, the end of August marks the beginning of a new season. This year, the athletic programs look very promising, offering ten NCAA Division III Varsity sports for both men and women.

With the expansion of Athletics here at Sage, many changes are taking place behind the scenes to give the student-athletes an advantage over the competition. As a result, Sage did some powerful recruiting this year, not only acquiring new talent on the field, but off the field as well. Along with new student-athletes, Sage Athletics welcomes Kyle Clancy (Men’s Soccer Coach), Jim Bowles (Men’s Cross Country Coach), Ann King (Sports Information Director), and 2005 Russell Sage valedictorian Jessica Horan (Assistant Athletic Trainer/Strength Conditioning Coordinator).

“We couldn’t be happier with our new staff and the potential they bring to Sage.  Each of them bring a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm that will help us solidify our expanded athletic department,” says Athletic Director Dani Drews.  “We are already feeling their positive impact around campus and with our student-athletes.”

The addition of Sage’s faculty recruits has already become beneficial to the student-athletes and faculty alike. Horan’s position is especially important to all of the student-athletes, as with expanding athletics, there are more athletes that need treatment and individualized, sport-specific treatment and workouts.

According to senior volleyball captain Kellie Jones “Having two athletic trainers allows the athlete load per trainer to decrease; it allows more attention to be given to each individual athlete. Together, Sharon and Jess [Sage’s athletic trainers) can divide and conquer more athletes and more injuries.

When asked to comment on her new role at Sage, Horan said, “It is very exciting to return to Sage and be a part of the growing athletic department.”  Horan added, “I can already see how far athletics has come and I feel honored to be a part of the continued expansion.”

This fall, student-athletes from both the Albany and Troy Campuses will be competing on four different squads, women’s soccer, tennis and volleyball and men’s golf.

Throughout the semester, this column will cover updates on these sports, as well as winter and spring sports as the school year progresses.

Amazing blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any suggestions? Thanks!
