SPORTS: Fall Sports on a Roll
It was a seemingly slow start for the fall teams at Sage; soccer was the only team to open the season with a win. However, after the first couple of weeks of competition, the Gators have been on a tear.
After their home-opening loss, tennis has been unstoppable, winning their last five matches. Overall, Sage is 27-9 in singles competition and 12-6 in doubles competition. Sage has been led by sophomore Briana Bixler (Week 2 Gator of the Week), who is 6-0 in singles, Christina Gray and Erica Fitzgerald, who have paired to dominate in doubles with a 4-1 overall record.
Soccer opened their season with an impressive 6-0 win over Morrisville State, yet lost two consecutive games in the Skidmore Tournament. However, Sage recovered from their losses, and on Saturday, September 20, came alive, defeating SUNY Cobleskill 4-1. Leading Sage this season is Rebecca Marszalek, with six goals and one assist, Ashley Allain, with seven assists, Amanda Potter with two goals and two assists, and Brittany McDonald with .744 save percentage. Sage is now 3-2 overall.
After starting the season 1-10, Sage volleyball has been on a roll; in the past week they have increased their record to 4-11. With their Skyline opening victory against Bard on September 22, Sage exteneded its Skyline Conference winning streak to 19. Since joining the conference in 2008, the Gators are yet to drop a Skyline Conference game. Sage has gotten help from all sides of the court, Kristyn Bunonicontra has 311 assists on the season, and Nicole Corbett, Sarah Peacock, and Kellie Jones (Week 2 Gator of the Week, Skyline Conference Player of the Week) all average over 1.88 kills per game. Cheryce Harvey, Kelsey Wilson, Kellie Jones, and Sarah Peacock have been working hard on defense too, each of the players have over 113 digs on the season.
Please come out and support your Sage Gators as they continue to chomp through the competition.
